I need your help. Earlier today, I read an article that GM has set up a joint venture in China to build light trucks. The agreement has GM investing $293 million in US taxpayer money in China as part of the agreement. Here’s my dilemma; last year, Obama and the Democrats innoculated us with the mantra, “stop shipping jobs overseas”. Over and over again, we were told that Bush was responsible for “sending jobs overseas” rather than keeping them here in the United States. Union bosses, Obama, and the Democrats blamed President Bush for “not taking action” to prevent private companies from “exporting jobs”. At the time, GM was a private company and thus, Bush had no authority to tell a private enterprise how to conduct its business. But, hasn’t GM’s status changed? Isn’t GM now owned by the government and the Unions? Why are they not only demanding that GM build these light vehicles in the United States; mandating it. I’m having trouble reconciling why Bush was to blame when GM “shipped” jobs overseas while it was a private corporation, but now that GM is run by the Obama administration they could care less that the practice is continuing. Can someone please help explain this to me?
