Clay Aiken’s appearance last night in support of his foundation, the National Inclusion Project, was met with some disappointment from a surprising group; Claymates. Throughout the night, Clay Aiken missed several notes and had forgotten several words to songs that he sung as part of the gala’s evening’s events. One Claymate wrote:
“Wow, that was an interesting night. And a worrisome night to me.
I still love Clay, but I don’t love his live performances anymore. He misses so many notes and sings with such strange faces (which I’m pretty sure is due to his TMJ), that I am MUCH more comfortable with his recorded performances now than his live performances. That breaks my heart. But it also makes me MAD, because we know from concert tours that as he gets further into a tour, he gets much better. So that tells me that the boy just doesn’t practice as much as he should in order to give a great performance. I believe that he personally killed a lot of CD sales for the last two albums just because of horrible t.v. performances and unattractive appearance. He really has GOT to get rid of Jamie. She just doesn’t know how to make his hair look good. It’s a sad commentary when the casual pictures we see of him have him looking WAAAAY better than his “coiffed” appearances. Anyway, As Long As We’re Here is one of my favs from OMWH, and I’ve been so looking forward to hearing him sing it, and then he butchered the song! I think he missed the most notes in that song tonight, which makes me so sad. If he is singing in the studio the way that he sang tonight, I worry about the next CD as well.
Sorry to be a killjoy when we’ve been waiting to “see” him again for such a long time, but I’m pretty upset about it and needed to say my piece.”
“I agree mostly. As an artist you have to be prepared. I get disappointed when people do that, it doesn’t make them look good, or the product they are selling look good. Clay’s only selling point is his voice, if he doesn’t sound good, he’s in trouble. I mean, I’ll give him a little leeway with this gig, because it’s one random event.. but people paid a lot to go to this right? I’d be mad if he sang 4 songs and messed up half of em.
ETA watching vid: he does sound pretty awful :-/ “
“as for his voice, i remember in one of the QnAs he said he just went karaoke and sounded like a dying mule – he’s not joking”
“*sigh*…He has been not singing for so long, he has got to start warming up and practicing more. I don’t care what he says – he has to take better care of his voice, otherwise, a talk show is the only thing he will be able to do.
He should get the hint when his voice gets better the longer he uses it.”
“No, he wasn’t joking. That was bad. Wow. What a disappointment. I agree with your post completely. sad.gif
I’m thrilled for people who have enough money to spend on Clay. I’m just worried with the way he sang, forgetting the words and not hitting a lot of the notes, those people will be dwindling.
And… They all need to have their heads examined if they think he looks his best with that old tired hair-do.”
Here are a few videos of his disappointing performances last night:
